Frequently asked questions
How are pregnancy weeks counted?
Doctors count from the first day of your last menstrual period, so you are usually counted as 2 weeks pregnant around conception. A full-term pregnancy is about 40 weeks.
Which week am I in?
Use our week-by-week guide: enter the first day of your last period or your due date and it jumps to your week. Your doctor may adjust dates after a scan.
Where does this information come from?
Each week page lists its sources, mainly NHS pregnancy guides, and is paraphrased. Scan and test timings follow UK guidance and can differ from your doctor’s schedule.
Can this replace a check-up?
No. These pages are educational. Please follow your own doctor’s advice and call your doctor or hospital if something worries you.
