What is happening in week 11
Doctors count pregnancy weeks from the first day of your last period, so week 11 sits in the first trimester (up to the end of week 13). That is about 29 weeks to go until week 40, and about 2.5 months by a rough conversion. In week 11 the baby is about 41mm long, with fingers and toes separating.
Your baby
The NHS guide gives about 41mm, roughly a fig. Fingers and toes are separating, tiny fingernails are forming and the baby is moving, although you will not feel it for several more weeks. The placenta is about to take over from the yolk sac in feeding the baby.
Your body
Stretching muscles and ligaments can cause aches around the bump. You are pumping up to 50% more blood than usual, which can make you feel hot, sweaty or dizzy. If so, rest. Gentle walking may help tiredness, and many people feel more energetic as the second trimester starts.
This week’s to-do
- Walk gently and rest when you feel dizzy or hot.
- Ask about your dating scan, which the NHS says may include a nuchal translucency measurement of fluid at the back of the baby’s neck.
- Expect routine blood, urine and blood pressure checks around this time.
When to call
Call your doctor or hospital if you have severe stomach pain, bleeding, or dizziness that does not settle with rest.
