What is happening in week 26
Doctors count pregnancy weeks from the first day of your last period, so week 26 sits in the second trimester (week 14 to week 27). That is about 14 weeks to go until week 40, and about 6.0 months by a rough conversion. In week 26 the baby is about 35.6cm long and its eyes are opening.
Your baby
The NHS guide gives about 35.6cm, a cucumber. The eyes are opening for the first time and the baby is learning to blink. Eye colour can keep changing and usually settles by age 3.
Your body
Night-time leg cramps, backache and pain at the sides of the bump are common. Some women notice forgetfulness, which the NHS calls baby brain.
This week’s to-do
- Mention night-time leg cramps to your doctor; the NHS lists them as common.
- Get to know your baby’s regular movements.
- Keep a note of questions for your next check-up.
When to call
Call your doctor or hospital straight away if the baby’s movements slow down or stop, or if you have any bleeding.

Use the week-by-week guide to jump to your week, or the due date calculator to work out your dates. Timings for scans and tests come from NHS guidance in the UK and can differ from your doctor’s schedule, so always follow your own doctor’s advice.
