What is happening in week 29
Doctors count pregnancy weeks from the first day of your last period, so week 29 sits in the third trimester (week 28 until birth). That is about 11 weeks to go until week 40, and about 6.7 months by a rough conversion. In week 29 the baby is about 38.6cm and its organs are maturing.
Your baby
The NHS guide gives about 38.6cm, a butternut squash. The baby is now perfectly formed; over the coming weeks the organs mature and it gains fat. The protective vernix coating starts to disappear.
Your body
Breathlessness, leg cramps and more night-time trips to the toilet are common. Your centre of gravity has shifted, so you may feel clumsy.
This week’s to-do
- Rest and pace yourself on stairs.
- Expect more night-time trips to the toilet; the NHS lists this as a common change.
- Pack questions for your next antenatal visit.
When to call
Call your doctor or hospital if the baby’s movements change or stop, if you have any bleeding, or if you have a fall.
Chaitanya Hospital in Kadapa, near RTC Bus Stand, Simhapuri Colony, provides delivery and emergency care 24/7. Our antenatal check-ups team can answer questions about your own pregnancy.
Use the week-by-week guide to jump to your week, or the due date calculator to work out your dates. Timings for scans and tests come from NHS guidance in the UK and can differ from your doctor’s schedule, so always follow your own doctor’s advice.
