What is happening in week 34
Doctors count pregnancy weeks from the first day of your last period, so week 34 sits in the third trimester (week 28 until birth). That is about 6 weeks to go until week 40, and about 7.8 months by a rough conversion. At about 45cm in week 34 the baby is curled up with limited room to move.
Your baby
The NHS guide gives about 45cm, a cantaloupe melon. The baby is curled up with legs bent towards the chest, but you should still feel movement.
Your body
The baby’s head may move into the pelvis (engagement), which can ease breathlessness and heartburn but does not mean birth is close. You may need to pee more, and the breasts may leak yellowish colostrum.
This week’s to-do
- Attend your antenatal appointment; the NHS says one is due around this week.
- Review your hospital bag and birth plan.
- Rest with your feet up.
When to call
Call your doctor or hospital if you have any bleeding, or if you are unhappy with your care or feel anxious.
Chaitanya Hospital in Kadapa, near RTC Bus Stand, Simhapuri Colony, provides delivery and emergency care 24/7. Our antenatal check-ups team can answer questions about your own pregnancy.
Use the week-by-week guide to jump to your week, or the due date calculator to work out your dates. Timings for scans and tests come from NHS guidance in the UK and can differ from your doctor’s schedule, so always follow your own doctor’s advice.
