What is happening in week 10
Doctors count pregnancy weeks from the first day of your last period, so week 10 sits in the first trimester (up to the end of week 13). That is about 30 weeks to go until week 40, and about 2.3 months by a rough conversion. At around 30mm, the baby’s heart is beating at about 180 beats a minute in week 10.
Your baby
The NHS guide gives about 30mm, roughly a small apricot, and says the baby makes jerky movements that can be seen on a scan. The face is becoming better proportioned, the eyes are half closed and the jaw already holds tiny versions of the milk teeth. The heart beats at about 180bpm, around three times your own.
Your body
The womb is about the size of a large orange, so your jeans may feel tight. Progesterone relaxes the womb muscles but also slows digestion, which can cause bloating, burping and heartburn.
This week’s to-do
- Eat about 6 small meals a day, eat slowly and avoid eating late at night to ease heartburn.
- Take a short walk after meals if you can.
- Plan your dating scan; the NHS says it is usually offered between 8 and 14 weeks.
