What is happening in week 30
Doctors count pregnancy weeks from the first day of your last period, so week 30 sits in the third trimester (week 28 until birth). That is about 10 weeks to go until week 40, and about 6.9 months by a rough conversion. At about 39.9cm in week 30, the baby can now focus its eyes.
Your baby
The NHS guide gives about 39.9cm, a cabbage. The eyes can now focus. After birth a baby can see a face 20 to 25cm away but cannot follow moving objects until about 3 months old.
Your body
Disturbed sleep and vivid dreams are common, and the NHS links them to hormones and anxiety. Being breathless on stairs is normal as the baby presses on your lungs.
This week’s to-do
- Create a calming bedtime routine and use pillows for support.
- Talk to your doctor about any anxiety.
- Ask your doctor about the newborn screening tests offered soon after birth.
When to call
Call your doctor or hospital if you have any bleeding, or if you feel very anxious, low or stressed.
Chaitanya Hospital in Kadapa, near RTC Bus Stand, Simhapuri Colony, provides delivery and emergency care 24/7. Our antenatal check-ups team can answer questions about your own pregnancy.
Use the week-by-week guide to jump to your week, or the due date calculator to work out your dates. Timings for scans and tests come from NHS guidance in the UK and can differ from your doctor’s schedule, so always follow your own doctor’s advice.
