What is happening in week 19
Doctors count pregnancy weeks from the first day of your last period, so week 19 sits in the second trimester (week 14 to week 27). That is about 21 weeks to go until week 40, and about 4.4 months by a rough conversion. At about 15.3cm in week 19, the baby’s adult teeth are starting to form.
Your baby
The NHS guide gives about 15.3cm, compared with a beef tomato. Adult teeth are starting to form behind the first set. The baby is gaining weight and the bubbling feeling in your tummy may be the baby moving.
Your body
The hormone relaxin loosens your ligaments, so your back, knees and ankles have less support and running may feel uncomfortable. Sleep can be difficult, and common problems include leg cramps, pelvic pain and heartburn.
This week’s to-do
- Sleep on your side with a pillow between your knees and one under the bump.
- Choose gentler exercise such as walking if running feels uncomfortable.
- Think about where you want to give birth.
When to call
Call your doctor or hospital if you have any vaginal bleeding, and trust your instincts if something feels wrong.
Chaitanya Hospital in Kadapa, near RTC Bus Stand, Simhapuri Colony, provides delivery and emergency care 24/7. Our antenatal check-ups team can answer questions about your own pregnancy.
Use the week-by-week guide to jump to your week, or the due date calculator to work out your dates. Timings for scans and tests come from NHS guidance in the UK and can differ from your doctor’s schedule, so always follow your own doctor’s advice.
